Hi all

Your delinquent CO here all rather sheepish. I promised that I would be chatting more often and real life then gave me a boot in the backside.

Ok so what is new on the Jaresh Inyo? We have set up and started our JI sim. Anyone who is interested in joining can email myself of Christina. Lots of positions available for all. We have two new members Lt JG Rebecca Overstreet and Commander Larry Clausing, Larry as I mentioned on the yahoo group has taken over the XO position pending passing the OCC.

I am intending to send out to everyone's emails a once a month puzzles and quotes, just a bit of fun for people. I am also part way through writing up the handbook for the JI to be given to new members. Any suggestions of what you would have wanted in there please email me.

Im signing off but please email me ... I do answer them.

An Apple (Pear or Onion) a Day Really May Keep the Doctor Away

by Margaret Boyles

October 15, 2011

I’ve already blogged about the health benefits of eating a variety of richly pigmented plant foods—the glorious reds, purples, oranges, and yellows found in fresh produce aisles, farmers’ markets, and backyard gardens.

Turns out the white fruits and vegetables—apples, pears, onions, cauliflower, cucumbers, and bananas—may also confer health benefits, specifically against strokes.

People who eat more white fruits and vegetables have far fewer strokes than those who don't

Dutch researchers followed more than 20,000 adults free of cardiovascular diseases at the start of the study for 10 years, and found “the risk of stroke was 52 percent lower for people with a high intake of white fruits and vegetables compared to people with a low intake. Each 25 gram per day increase in white fruits and vegetable consumption was associated with a 9 percent lower risk of stroke. An average apple is 120 grams.” (The study classified potatoes as starches, not vegetables.)

Of course, the researchers urge caution in interpreting their data. They say their findings are preliminary and represent correlation, not necessarily causation. The benefits observed might result from other factors such as an overall healthier diet and lifestyle among people who eat lots of apples, pears, and onions.

Our garden onions (both red- and white-fleshed) are safely tucked away in the cellar, and it’s apple season here in central New Hampshire. The onions, as well as local apples, will last all winter, which makes it easy to tuck away a couple of white-vegetable servings each day. For anyone seeking more variety, most supermarkets carry bananas, cauliflower, and cucumbers year ‘round.

Simple recipes that go with everything

Try slicing apples and/or pears, poaching them in a skillet with a tiny bit of water until soft, then sprinkling with a little cinnamon before serving as a side dish.

Or try a combination of red or green cabbage, onions, and apples. The proportions don’t matter much.

  • Prepare a marinade of ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, ½ cup apple cider, 2 tablespoons of your favorite sweetener, plus a pinch of salt.
  • Shred a small cabbage and toss with marinade.
  • Sauteé a diced onion in a little olive oil in a large skillet until soft.
  • Add the cabbage with its marinade, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Finally, add two or three diced apples and simmer a few more minutes until the apples are soft and most of the liquid has evaporated.

With the CO's approval the post is now Chaplain/Counselor.

I believe that everything is related, that all of Creation is One. I believe there is a difference between soul and spirit. A soul is what was endowed us by the Creator allowing us awareness, consciousness of all of the energies within us.

Everything has a spirit. A spirit can be looked at as the energy pulse emitted by something — the energy that links Creation to the Creator. That energy pulse (vibration of Spirit or “God's” Light) resonates with everything else. [For those science-minded, think of atoms and their structures]

The Canticle of All Creatures
Saint Francis of Assisi

Most High, all-powerful, good Lord,
all praise is yours, all glory, all honor,
and all blessing.

To you, alone, Most High, do they belong.
No mortal lips are worthy to pronounce your name.

All praise be yours, my Lord,
through all you have made,
and first my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day;
and through whom you give us light.

How beautiful is he, how radiant in all his splendor;
Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness.

All Praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Moon
and the stars; in the heavens you have made them,
bright, and precious, and fair.

All praise be yours, my Lord,
through Brothers wind and air, and fair and stormy,
all the weather's moods,
by which you cherish all that you have made.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Water,
so useful, humble, precious and pure.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom you brighten up the night.
How beautiful is he, how cheerful!
Full of power and strength.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through our Sister
Mother Earth, who sustains us and governs us,
and produces various fruits with colored flowers
and herbs.

All praise be yours, my Lord,
through those who grant pardon for love of you;
through those who endure sickness and trial.

Happy are those who endure in peace,
By You, Most High, they will be crowned.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Death,
From whose embrace no mortal can escape.

Woe to those who die in mortal sin!
Happy those she finds doing your will!
The second death can do them no harm.

Praise and bless my Lord, and give him thanks
And serve him with great humility.

St Francis was a man of faith. He was a mystical person. He therefore saw God's presence in everything around him. Thus, when he encountered nature, he encountered God. He saw everything and everyone through the eyes of faith. One of the main attributes of God was that of Creator. Thus, all beings animate or inanimate, were therefore creatures.

St Francis was not an animist or a pantheist; that is he did not worship "god" in the tree/ the stone or the water. Rather, he saw God's providential love expressed in and through all creatures: the beauty of a forest, the simplicity of a solitary leaf, the wondrous complexity of a human hand; all of them shouted to Francis that "God is here." For Francis, the world about him drew him to God and was a display of divine love.

Saint Francis of Assisi (born Giovanni Francesco di Bernardone; 1181/1182 – October 3, 1226) was an Italian Catholic friar and preacher. He founded the men's Franciscan Order, the women’s Order of St. Clare, and the lay Third Order of Saint Francis. St. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in history.

On July 16, 1228, he was pronounced a saint by Pope Gregory IX. He is known as the patron saint of animals, the environment and one of the two patrons of Italy (with Catherine of Siena), and it is customary for Catholic and Anglican churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on his feast day of 4 October.

EVERYTHING IS ONE
Everything is connected, all of creation. Recognize the sacredness of everything.

We are all connected and therefore when we pray for others we are in turn praying for ourselves. Mitakuye oyasin - for all my relations. "We are related to each and everything that has ever been or ever will be." - Little Crow

"Love Creator with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself."

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” – Matthew 22:37-40 [Mark 12:28-31]

Lakota Instructions for Living

Friend do it this way - that is,
whatever you do in life,
do the very best you can
with both your heart and mind.

And if you do it that way,
the Power Of The Universe
will come to your assistance,
if your heart and mind are in Unity.

When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,
one must be responsible because
All of Creation is related.
And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.
And the honor of one is the honor of all.
And whatever we do effects everything in the universe.

If you do it that way - that is,
if you truly join your heart and mind
as One - whatever you ask for,
that's the Way It's Going To Be.

A basic principle of shamanism is the belief that everything has a spirit and is alive. The tree has a spirit, the rock has a spirit, my drum has a spirit, and yes, even this computer has a spirit. If everything has a spirit and is alive, we humans then find ourselves in a position of equality rather than dominance. If you follow this logic, you begin to realize that shamanism is a radical act. Shamans don’t follow the laws of man; they follow the laws of spirits. They don’t dominate the earth and its creatures; they strive to live in harmony and balance.

Even though we American Indians believe that everything has a spirit and is alive we never worship any of the spirits of nature and for this reason we are not true animists..The American Indian Religions teach that the Creator lives in all that exists..Because we believe the Creator exists in all that is then everything must be respected and cared for..Mother Earth and all that exists upon her is not seen as something to be tamed but instead we believe we all must find a way to live in balance with everything..

========================
My philosophy:

The "spirit" that inhabits everything is the spirit of G-D, not to be confused with "soul" embodied in humans. The two words are often used interchangably today.

"soul": the spiritual principle embodied in human beings
"spirit":a supernatural being or essence [of the Creator]

example: I have a soul, but the Spirit of G-D lives within me.

President of the United Federation of Planets

Jaresh-Inyo (c. 2372)

In 2372, the post was held by Jaresh-Inyo, a Grazerite. His presidency was marked by a number of troubling foreign and domestic policy developments, including the dissolution of the Khitomer Accords and an undeclared war with the Klingon Empire in 2372, increasing tensions with the Dominion, and the rise of the Maquis.

In 2372, fears of Changeling infiltration of the Federation government reached a high point when Dominion agents were discovered to have detonated a bomb at a diplomatic conference between the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire in Antwerp. Starfleet Admiral and Chief of Starfleet Operations Leyton and Captain Benjamin Sisko advocated increased security on Earth following the bombing, and when the planetary power grid was disabled, Inyo declared martial law on the capital planet. Later, it was discovered that the grid had been disabled by Leyton's own agents, and that Leyton was leading an attempted military coup d'etat against the Federation civilian government. Leyton's coup was thwarted by Sisko, but as a result of the scandal, Jaresh-Inyo's political career ended. (DS9: "Homefront", "Paradise Lost")

Jaresh-Inyo left office sometime prior to 2375. While questioning Luther Sloan, Julian Bashir discovered that Section 31 had an operative working in Jaresh-Inyo's cabinet. (DS9: "Extreme Measures")

The novel " Articles of the Federation" establishes that Jaresh-Inyo died in May of 2380, being remembered as a great "peace-time president" being credited with the expansion of civil rights for sentient beings, and the opening of diplomatic relations with the Children of Tama, but not one suited for the job when war with the Dominion became inevitable.
